Attendance and NHS Patient Policy

Late cancellations and missed appointments create a cost to the practice, as this time could have been offered to another patient in need.
To remain an NHS patient at Derby City Dental Care, please remember two key points:
Attend your appointments and if you wish to cancel or rearrange an appointment please contact us by calling us on 01332 334810.
Do not allow too much time to pass between appointments.
We value all of our patients and it is never our wish to say, “We are sorry, but we must ask you to find another dental practice for your treatment.” However, this is the procedure we must follow if attendance rules are not met.
Our Policy on Missed or Late-Cancelled Appointments:

First occurrence: Your non-attendance or late cancellation will be recorded. When booking your next appointment, you may be offered the next available slot, which might not suit your preferred time.
Second occurrence: Unfortunately, we will need to ask you to find an alternative dentist.
If you attend after a first missed appointment: We will continue to do our best to offer you your preferred day and time for future appointments.
If you do not attend or cancel within less than 24 hours of your first appointment for any reason, you will not be offered another appointment on the NHS.

Regular Attendance and NHS Care

NHS dental registration is no longer in place. If too much time passes between your visits, you may no longer be able to access NHS dental care.
As a courtesy, we do our best to remind patients when they are due for examinations via text, email, phone calls, or letters. However, this is not guaranteed, and sometimes reminders do not reach patients if contact details are not up to date.

How to Keep Your Place on Our NHS Patient List:

Always attend your booked appointments, or cancel more than 24 hours in advance.
Before leaving the practice, book your next dental examination—even if it’s 6, 9, or 12 months away. Our reception team will be happy to help and will also send reminders nearer the time.
Keep your contact details updated—especially your mobile number and email address—so we can keep in touch and help you stay on track.
